Lindsey Woytek, a master’s level graduate student, joined the Sierra Therapy Group team for a seven week internship coordinated through the University of Nevada, Reno Speech Pathology and Audiology Department. The seven weeks were a blur, and we really enjoyed having Lindsey and sharing our clients with her! Her passion and motivation to do a great job were inspiring. So inspiring that she will be joining the STG team as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in July 2014! When asked about her experience, this is what she shared:
“As I approach the end of my seven-week clinical rotation, I wanted to share the wonderful experience I obtained here at STG as a speech-language pathology intern. I am so appreciative of the opportunity that I was provided by both Shawna and the entire team working within the practice.
At STG I was able to collaborate with extremely knowledgeable and passionate SLPs and OTs. Working with this interdisciplinary team allowed me to learn first hand how crucial working together with one another is in regards to having the most beneficial and largest impact possible on the child.
Shawna was my clinical supervisor; however, I had the opportunity to be supervised by all of the SLPs within the pediatric group. They each provided an immense amount of feedback and direction throughout the seven weeks to help strengthen and further develop my skills as an SLP, and for this I will be forever grateful.
At STG, I had the opportunity to assess and complete evaluations, provide therapeutic intervention to children with varying diagnoses, work with the families involved in order to provide additional strategies and recommendations for carryover to the home, as well as collaborating with other professionals with the child’s best interest in mind.
STG exceeded all of my expectations for an internship placement. It was a rewarding environment in which I was able to learn from various professionals and was provided with different educational tools and resources that I will continue to use within my future experiences as an SLP.
I would like to thank Shawna for being my clinical supervisor and allowing me the opportunity to be a part of her team for my clinical rotation as a student intern. This experience has confirmed that entering the field of Speech Language Pathology was exactly what I was supposed to do for my career. It is in fact my passion, and I look forward to the opportunities ahead upon graduating in May 2014!”
The entire team is excited to welcome Lindsey…her passion, motivation, willingness to learn/grow, and ease of rapport with the families and clients align perfectly with the services that STG strives to provide!
